It is designed to compensate for drywall cutout imperfections, providing a grated surface suitable for the application of drywall compound for a finished appearance. It can also be used to adapt the keypad to an existing 1-gang electrical box, allowing the excess area around the keypad opening to be filled, sanded, and painted.
